Library
MSU Libraries have an
expanding research collection of more than 4,000,000 volumes and new
technologies that are housed in the main library and in 13 branch
libraries. More than 28,000 separate serial titles are received
regularly, with excellent representation in all areas of psychology.
All government and United Nations publications plus selected Canadian
documents are kept in the Documents Collection. The Special Collections
Division houses approximately 250,000 volumes, including the library's
collection of rare books. Specialized branch libraries are located in
several classroom buildings.
Computing Services
The MSU Computer Laboratory
provides computer support for university teaching and research, and
includes network support, computer consulting, computing and technology
training, and a Multimedia Graphics Design Lab. The Psychology Research
Building is directly linked to university computing services via an
ethernet connection, giving us online access to the university library
catalogue, PsychInfo, and the Internet.
Michigan State University
Founded in 1855, MSU is a
research-intensive land-grant university with more than 4,000 academic
staff in 14 degree-granting colleges. MSU operates on the semester
system.
MSU is one of only 58 members of the prestigious Association
of American Universities and a member of the Big Ten Conference.
The Campus
The property holdings of MSU at East Lansing number 5,198 acres (map). Of this total, some
2,100 acres are in existing or planned campus development; the
remaining acres are devoted to experimental farms, outlying research
facilities, and natural areas. Major buildings number about 150 on the
contiguous campus; there are 33 miles of roadways and 99 miles of
walkways.
The MSU campus forms a park-like setting; campus plantings,
including some 7,000 kinds of trees, shrubs, and vines, serve as a vast
collection for research, teaching, and observation in horticulture,
landscape architecture, botany, and forestry. The MSU gardens
include the W. J. Beal
Botanical Garden (with more than 3,000 plant species and varieties)
next to the main library.
